Earth From Space

 Some code involved in these.

Work

I  build things that help the Earth and the People on it. The projects below all involve some kind of code to perform a realistic simulation and analyze technical solutions for environmental issues.

The Solar Hosting Capacity Report published October 2025 was prepared for the District Department of Energy and Environment by Electrify DC in collaboration with Redwood Energy and Synapse Energy Economics, in response to the DC Council’s directive to assess the grid’s hosting capacity and identify solutions to accelerate the adoption of Distributed Energy Resources while addressing systemic challenges.

  • The code analyzes hosting capacity based on the configured inverter control profile and its dynamic response to the solar power produced.

  • Monte Carlo simulations can be performed where load profile assignment is fully randomized.

  • Simulations are performed over 24 hour solve horizons.

The reports analyzes solar hosting capacity on radial feeders in the District with data provided by Pepco the utility. It draws a direct contrast with the hosting capacity maps provided by the utility. The code developed for this project is based on EPRI's OpenDSS libraries and employs data provided the utility to perform a dynamic hosting capacity analysis.
